LEDVANCE’s lighting solution involving a complete replacement of the DS Arena stadium lighting in Hobro, delivers higher light levels, lower energy consumption and reduced light spill, making it fully compliant with the requirements of the Danish Football Association (DBU).

the challenge

Many of the stadium’s existing floodlights were out of operation due to failed 2,000 W metal halide lamps. The lamps had been discontinued and were no longer available. Hobro IK therefore needed a new solution to ensure reliable operation and improved lighting conditions on the pitch. Special consideration also had to be given to the relatively low lighting masts and the stadium’s proximity to both woodland areas and educational facilities. As a result, precise light control and the reduction of light spill were key requirements for the project. Furthermore, Hobro IK wanted to meet the relevant licensing requirements.

the solution

In cooperation with Managing Director Mads Justesen, LEDVANCE developed a proposal to replace all floodlights at the facility. The installation comprised 108 LED floodlights together with accessories such as special reflectors, base caps, mounting materials and safety wires. The project was developed with a focus on precise light control and the reduction of spill light and back light. The specific requirements of the stadium and its surroundings formed the basis of the design, resulting in a lighting solution using specially adapted variants with different optical and visor combinations.

SUMMARY

At DS Arena, Hobro IK has received a new LED-based stadium lighting solution replacing an outdated and discontinued installation. The project combines higher light levels, lower energy consumption and improved control of light spill while taking the surrounding environment into consideration.

We needed better lighting on the pitch while keeping spill light to the surroundings to a minimum. It was also important that the installation met the licensing requirements. We got exactly that with the new solution.
